Il y a des jours... et des lunes

Directed by Claude Lelouch

Synopsis

How can moon and time affect human mood and fate? In the manner of a Greek tragedy , this movie shows how the chaos of life ineluctably propels its characters towards violence and alienation.

    NOT A REVIEW!

    Score: 4/10
    Enjoyment: 1/5
Stop with the (stupid) music and songs, Lelouch. And stop making movies too.

Another incredible piece from Claude Lelouch. And once again the views count on here shocks me. More people need to watch this. It’s nice to see all the same actors, but in a different story. Gérard Lanvin, I have no words.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

bon le montage est hyper étrange et les dialogues + musique sont un mélange particulier que Lelouch fait souvent, à la rigueur la fin est intéressante mais les personnages sont construit très bizarrement

    David Stratton’s Review for Variety.

“There Were Days And Moons” demonstrates the best and worst of Claude Lelouch’s style: a great idea, a fine cast, interesting locations, some brilliant filmmaking. Yet, it’s often pretentious, overlong and over empathetic, and with another all-enveloping music score.

None of Lelouch’s many features have achieved the success of his international hit “A Man And A Woman.” The 1966 pic’s popularity may even have harmed his career as critics worldwide reacted against the tv commercial style in his direction and the schmaltzy music score.

New film’s idea is that daylight saving, with clocks going forward an hour, coincides with a full moon, when instabilities supposedly surface. Lelouch takes a clutch of characters with various personal…

    DAVID: ★★★

Reviewed on The Movie Show, SBS, 1991. Review by Margaret Pomeranz.

THERE WERE DAYS… AND MOONS is Claude Lelouch’s 31st film, and it provides good ammunition for the anti-Daylight-Saving brigade. The film's thesis is that losing that crucial hour gets everyone's nerves on edge and can provoke domestic disputes and road accidents. This is typical Lelouch, a mixture of superbly staged cinema and soppy melodrama, a film with a strong cast of fine actors playing various archetypes whose paths will cross dramatically on a French Highway at the film's climax, and an overwhelmingly intrusive music score.

If it weren't so long - over two hours - THERE WERE DAYS… AND MOONS would be a lot more fun than…
